‘To eat is a necessity but to eat intelligently is an art’

– La Rochefoucald.

At Holly Grange we believe a healthy and well balanced diet is essential to a child’s education.

We provide a healthy breakfast, lunch and tea. All of our meals are freshly prepared on the premises and designed to be full of nutrition and flavour. We never give children raw egg, nut products, sweetened or soft drinks or processed food. Fresh drinking water is always available. Salt is never added to any of the food.

Our seasonal menus at Holly Grange Montessori ensure the children receive the right amount of energy and nutrients needed as they grow so rapidly. We believe the informative early years is an ideal time for our children to establish healthy lifestyles and our staff support them in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food. Encouraging and developing good dietary habits early encourages the children to eat a wide variety of foods to take with them into later life.

Mealtimes are sociable and children are encouraged to feed themselves. Good table manners are encouraged. Older children are encouraged to serve themselves. We cater for all dietary requirements and work with parents to adapt menus when children have allergies.

We are proud to have been recognised for our outstanding menus and have received the Healthier Together award issued by our local authority. This award is based on the principles and guidelines set out in the Eat Better Start Better guidelines issued by the Children’s Food Trust.

We change our menus to suit all dietary needs that your child may have.

Our menu is Flexitarian, so as well as some meat and fish, we include a range of vegetarian and vegan high protein food.

What is a flexitarian diet?

We use organic and ethically sourced products at all times when possible. We use Free-range eggs in all of our meals and baking. We source our milk from the local village to support zero-kilometre and local produce. All of our uniforms are ethically sourced and made of 100% organic cotton. Our nappies are also reusable. Please see our ‘Eco-Footprint’ page for more info.

We use seasonal produce in our menu, and we change our menu twice per year: Winter and Summer menus.

We follow the natural seasons in the UK and base our menus on what is in season during that period, rather than the other way around.

“Children enjoy yoga and mindfulness sessions which help to develop an awareness of their own well-being.” – Ofsted 2019.

Yoga has been proved as important for children as it is for adults. At Holly Grange we believe that it’s important for children to express their emotions and yoga helps young children to use their voices and bodies in order to find happiness and calm.

Some topics that we teach the children are: positive energy through water flow in the body, inner strength and concentration, expression and wellbeing.
